Propofol for neonatal intubation

A case series from the Netherlands describes 62 intubations where propofol was used for premedication in neonates 24 – 44 weeks. A starting dose of 2 mg/kg was insufficient in about two-thirds of infants, who required additional doses. Fifteen percent of infants required additional medications as propofol alone was not sufficient. Hypotension occurred in 39% of infants. Neonates responded more often to the starting dose of propofol on the first day of life, but were also more prone to hypotension.
